Feels-like is really two calculations depending on the weather. In heat, high humidity is the culprit — it stops sweat evaporating, so your body cannot cool itself and the air feels hotter than it is, which is the heat index. In cold, wind is the culprit — it strips away the thin layer of warmth around your skin, making it feel colder, which is wind chill. The feels-like temperature simply applies whichever effect the conditions call for, giving one honest number for how the day will treat you.
