Whether it is a giveaway, a raffle or choosing who presents first, picking a name at random is easy — but picking one people will trust takes a little care. The goal is a draw that is genuinely fair and visibly so.
What 'fair' actually means
A fair draw gives every entry exactly the same chance, with no weighting toward the top or bottom of the list. A good picker shuffles properly so position on the list does not matter — the first name and the last name are equally likely to win.
How to run a draw
- Open the random name picker and paste your list, one entry per line.
- Draw a winner. For multiple prizes, draw again with the winner removed so nobody wins twice.
- It runs in your browser, so you can do it live on a screen share for transparency.
Make it trustworthy
For a public giveaway, transparency matters as much as randomness. Show the full list of entries on screen, run the draw live so nobody thinks it was pre-decided, and if you have duplicate entries for extra chances, keep them in — removing them silently changes the odds.
Doing the draw on a live stream or screen recording is the single best way to prove it was fair — the result is generated in front of everyone, not chosen in advance.
