A circular crop is the standard for profile pictures, team avatars and logos that sit inside a round frame. The key detail most tools miss is the transparent background — without it, your circle sits on an ugly white square wherever you paste it.
Why you need a transparent PNG
If you crop to a circle but export as JPG, the corners outside the circle become white, because JPG cannot store transparency. Paste that onto a coloured page and you get a white box around your circle. Exporting as PNG keeps those corners see-through, so the circle blends into any background.
How to do it
- Open the circle cropper and add your photo.
- Drag the circle to frame the part you want, and pull a corner to resize it.
- Export — you get a transparent circular PNG, made entirely on your device.
Get the framing right
For a face, leave a little space above the head and centre the eyes slightly above the middle of the circle — that reads as balanced once it is shrunk to a small avatar. Square, high-resolution source images crop best, because a circle is widest across the middle and you do not want to run out of image at the edges.
Many platforms display avatars at 400×400 or smaller. Crop from the largest version of your photo you have, so the final circle stays crisp after the platform shrinks it.
