The details that trip people up
Hreflang is notoriously fiddly. The tags must be reciprocal — every version has to list every other version, including itself — or search engines ignore them. The language and region codes have to be valid, and it is easy to mix up a language code with a country code. Because a single missing return tag breaks the set, it is worth generating them consistently and, ideally, validating the result. Get it right and international sites rank far more cleanly.
