The midnight and sixty traps
Two things trip people up. Crossing midnight — a shift from 10pm to 6am — breaks naive subtraction, since the end time looks smaller than the start; the calculation has to roll over the day. And because an hour is sixty minutes, not a hundred, you cannot just subtract the minutes as if they were decimals.
