Why a bigger pizza is a bargain
The reason a large pizza is such good value comes down to geometry: a pizza's area grows with the square of its diameter, so an eighteen-inch pizza is not a bit bigger than a twelve-inch one, it is more than twice the food. People consistently underestimate this because we judge size by width, not area. So doubling the diameter roughly quadruples the pizza, which is why the largest size is almost always the cheapest per bite.
